Nice one! You&#8217;ve learned lots of new information and skills from your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/all-courses\">security course<\/a>. But as a legal qualification, there are also important conditions of your SIA Licence you need to remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are the conditions of having an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/licence\/get-sia-licence\">SIA Licence<\/a>? Your training instructor will have helped you understand this information, but it&#8217;s natural to feel overwhelmed by <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/973907\/sia-get-licensed.pdf\">the documentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nobody likes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plainenglish.co.uk\/a-to-z-of-legal-phrases.html\">wading through legal jargon<\/a>, so we&#8217;ve picked the need-to-know information out for you. In this blog, you&#8217;ll learn what you can and can&#8217;t do as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/get-daily\/security-jobs-post-lockdown\/\">licensed security professional<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-conditions-of-your-sia-licence-the-six-commitments\">Conditions of your SIA Licence &#8212; The Six Commitments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure you keep your licence, you must always comply with SIA Code of Conduct. These rules are also called the Six Commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CP5wZ4TqS7I\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Much of it is common sense, and it&#8217;s in place to protect you, the businesses you work with, and the public. Keep them in mind when you&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/get-daily\/getting-a-job-in-security-with-no-experience\/\">on the job<\/a>, and you can&#8217;t go wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Act with honesty and integrity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SIA Licence holders:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Need to be honest with their employers, the employers&#8217; clients, and anyone else they meet on duty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should never allow themselves to be manipulated by people<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should not be involved in any illegal activities or groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should comply with the Code of Conduct, and not victimise anyone who claims they have gone against the Code<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Be trustworthy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Licence holders must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not seize anyone&#8217;s property without a lawful reason, or damage it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not take advantage of others for their own gain, or abuse the power of their position towards vulnerable people<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respect and protect confidential information, except when it is unlawful to do so<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not carry out their duties with a weapon of any kind<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Must Know Skills For Security Professionals | Episode 5 - Use of Force\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mgTG73UD-BI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Protect the people and property you are entrusted to protect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Licence holders must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Always take lawful steps towards the prevention and reduction of crime<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not endanger any people or property as they carry out their duties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quickly and calmly take steps to help those in need<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not use excessive force while on duty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always report incidents as soon as they occur to the relevant emergency services for trained assistance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Be professional at work<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Licence holders must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Always perform their duties with self-control<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not use any illegal drugs or alcohol while they are on duty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/COdMRffgwl2\/\">https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/COdMRffgwl2\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Act with fairness and impartiality at work<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Licence holders must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not unlawfully discriminate against others, or become abusive in any way towards them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not let their personal feelings for family and friends interfere with their duties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6. Be accountable for your decisions and actions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Licence holders must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not tamper with or destroy any evidence they come across on duty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide accurate verbal and written statements when requested to do so by their employers, SIA officials, or law enforcement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always cooperate with law enforcement and SIA officials when requested<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Right and Wrong way to react when you find drugs | #Shorts\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Vfdk9RSozs4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-potential-actions-when-the-code-is-broken\">Potential actions when the Code is broken <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you&#8217;re aware of what&#8217;s expected of you as a licence holder. So, it&#8217;s time to let you know what could happen if you don&#8217;t follow the rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Written warning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step taken if you breach the Code of Conduct is a written warning. It&#8217;ll describe the offence you committed, and be kept for future reference if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Revocation or suspension of your licence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on what you did to breach the Code of Conduct, you may have your licence suspended for a time. The offence committed will decide how long that might be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If what you did was a significant offence, such as knowingly aiding criminal activity, you could have your licence revoked. That means you won&#8217;t be able to go back to working under an SIA Licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prosecution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Going against the conditions indicated in the Code of Conduct is also a criminal offence. This is UK law, under Section 9 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2001\/12\/contents\">Private Security Industry Act of 2001<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-other-sia-licence-rules-to-remember\">Other SIA Licence rules to remember<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond what is stated under the Six Commitments, licence holders must also:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Always have their issued licence visible while they&#8217;re on duty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never allow the physical licence card to be changed in any way<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immediately report to their superiors and law enforcement if their licence gets lost or damaged in any way<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not use a damaged license until they receive a replacement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inform their superiors if they are under investigation for any offences that go against the Code of Conduct<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immediately return their licence when requested by their superiors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Always remember the rules that apply to you as an SIA Licence holder. That means you always stay on the right side of the law, and continue to act as a licensed security professional who&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/get-daily\/security-staff-recognition\/\">in demand<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working to these rules also means that you&#8217;re never likely to be blamed for anything that goes wrong. Sometimes, people lose their temper in even the most professional businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In times like that, playing the blame game is easy &#8212; but if you&#8217;ve been doing your job by the book, nobody can accuse you of anything bad.
