Old Vs New"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>If you recently applied for a licence and are eagerly awaiting your shiny new card, it\u2019s worth noting that since 2016 a new version was introduced to replace the old one. So, what does it look like and how does it compare to the previous one?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For starters, it\u2019s pint-sized and comes in the shape of a credit card to fit snugly inside your wallet or purse. Here are some new features which we think are super cool:<\/p>\n<h3>Improved security features:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Doubled picture size<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Expiry date engraved on the photo<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>UV, micro text and engraving<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Barcode and QR code instead of a chip<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Silver holographic overlay<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5946\" src=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/get-daily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/id-1-300x188.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5947\" src=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/get-daily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/2-300x192.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"192\"><\/p>\n<p>If you are private security company and wish to check your security operative\u2019s ID, you\u2019ll want to look out for the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Embossed date: <\/strong>This can be found under the photograph and the numbers are raised above the surface, so you can feel them by running your finger\/thumb over it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microtext:<\/strong> On the front you will see \u2018Security Industry Authority\u2019 printed at the top of the \u2018i\u2019 and inside the \u2018a\u2019 on the back. This is clearly visible with a magnifying glass<\/li>\n<li><strong>Barcode:<\/strong> On the back of the card there is a barcode, which when scanned takes you to your licence number; same as on Register of Licence Holders (ROHL)<\/li>\n<li><strong>UV Gillock: <\/strong>On the reverse of the card, a fine spiral pattern is visible under UV light<\/li>\n<li><strong>QR Code: <\/strong>On the reverse of the card. This takes you to the most up-to-date licence conditions on the SIA website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For private security companies carrying out the above checks, they will need certain equipment to do so. There are now overt and covert security features to prevent counterfeiting. See below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Magnifying glass: <\/strong>To read microtext and engravings<\/li>\n<li><strong>UV torch:<\/strong> For reading all the above<\/li>\n<li><strong>Barcode and QR reader:<\/strong> For scanning and opening a link to licence conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All pretty fancy, right? But what about the old licence? How does it hold up in comparison? Here are some of its key features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Silver hologram to prevent counterfeiting<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Electronic chip<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Large print expiry date<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Licence holder\u2019s picture<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Licence holder\u2019s licence number<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5948\" src=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/get-daily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/4-300x191.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5949\" src=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/get-daily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/3-300x188.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\"><\/p>\n<p>As you can see from the pictures, with the absence of the microchip and the featured picture appearing larger and more prominent in the new version, the overall design is a lot cleaner and less fussy. Also, the barcode in place of the large black strip of the old one, is also a welcome addition in terms of presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, if you still hold the older licence, don\u2019t worry. They will still be in circulation well into 2019.<\/p>\n<h3>How to work in the security sector<\/h3>\n<p>If you are interested in working in the security sector, whether it be as a Door Supervisor, Security Guard or CCTV Operative, you will need to obtain a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/licence\/door-supervisor-licence\">SIA Licence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To obtain a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/licence\/door-supervisor-licence\">SIA Licence<\/a>, you will need to complete a course.
