For Friat Brhane, the job is sometimes less about security and more about simple human kindness.

Being out there in the public eye means people often look to him for help when they’re struggling. He was on duty near the underground when he noticed a situation where someone clearly needed a hand.

“I saw an elderly lady struggling to pull her suitcase through the underground, so I stepped in to help her onto the train. As she got on, the doors closed, leaving me behind with her suitcase. I was confused about what to do, so I asked the underground authorities.

While it may have seemed like a small gesture, for Friat, it turned out to be a bigger moment than he had anticipated.

“They told me there was nothing I could do and to leave the suitcase with them in case she comes to collect it later. The next day, management handed me a letter from the woman, thanking me for my kindness, along with a £20 note inside. It was such a rewarding moment.”

Friat didn’t expect anything to come of it when he handed the suitcase over. It was such an unexpected and heartwarming outcome that reminded him why helping people is the best part of his job. It’s those small interactions that really make a difference in someone’s day.
