"Had a great two days of DS refresher training from Paul and Kaseem at Arnos Manor on 4th & 5th July. Both were knowledge and experienced and were happy to go over things again to ensure understanding. Would definitely recommend them as trainers."

“Get Licensed is a professional company and they trained me to the highest standard of security. Zowie Jennings was excellent and I learnt a lot during my training session. Gavin Shields was also very good during our practical assessments. Would definitely recommend."

Completed the DS Top up course with Get licensed and passed. Adame who trained us was great, very professional and down to earth guy. Even though he’s had various jobs and years of experience in security he just treats you like a equal, no better than anyone attitude which is good. Professional training by trainers who WANT you to pass not a back street company. Will be definitely back again for further training. Thank you.

Not sure where to start?
We'll clear it up!

You need to be 18 or over to apply for an SIA licence with Get Licensed — no formal qualifications required. Beyond that, you'll need the right to work in the UK, a pass on an SIA-approved training course, and a clear criminal background check; some licences, Door Supervisor included, also require a valid Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, which can be arranged as part of your course.
No prior security experience is required to train as a licensed security officer with Get Licensed — our SIA-accredited courses are built for complete beginners. What matters more than experience is showing up, paying attention, and taking the training seriously.
You don't need to be a UK citizen to get an SIA licence, but you do need the right to work in the UK. In other words, UK nationals and anyone with a settled, pre-settled, or work-permitting visa status all qualify. You'll need to show proof of this when you apply, alongside your training certificate and ID.
An SIA licence application is typically processed in 4-6 weeks, with the physical badge posted within about two weeks of approval — often faster, within a few working days. If it hasn't arrived after 14 days, a replacement can be requested through your SIA online account.
Yes — Door Supervisor and First Aid courses can usually be booked together with Get Licensed, since some licences require First Aid anyway. The main thing to check is that the dates and locations don't clash, as both are delivered in person over consecutive days.
A UK SIA licence costs around £454 in total for Door Supervisors: a £204 application fee paid to the SIA, plus £249.99 for training with Get Licensed. Security Guard and CCTV routes cost approximately £404 and £444 respectively, factoring in the training and licence costs. Most people earn that back within their first couple of weeks of work.
An SIA licence is valid for 3 years from the date it's issued, and renewing before it expires just takes a short refresher course (1-2 days) and reapplication — start that process at least 16 weeks out to avoid any gap in your ability to work.
A Door Supervisor licence is the broader of the two SIA licences: it covers general security work plus door access control at licensed venues like pubs and clubs, while a Security Guard (manned guarding) licence covers static sites only — offices, warehouses, retail. The industry now uses "security officer" rather than "guard" to reflect the professional training and legal accountability the role carries, but functionally both are licensed security professionals.
A lost, stolen, or damaged SIA licence can be replaced through your SIA online account, typically within 14 working days. If it was stolen, report it to the police first for a crime reference number, since you'll need it for the replacement application.
Get Licensed runs SIA courses at over 100 locations across the UK, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Bristol. Use the course finder to see dates and venues near your postcode — most people are within 30 minutes of a training centre.
Get Licensed training is booked online in about 5 minutes, at 100+ UK locations with courses running every week. Choose the licence type you want, pick a location and date, and show up ready to learn — no prior experience or qualifications needed to enrol.
SIA training with Get Licensed takes between 3 and 19 days, depending on licence type: 3 days for CCTV Operator, 4 for Security Guard, 6 for Door Supervisor, and 16-19 for Close Protection. All courses run on consecutive days, with exam results the same day you finish.
Security officer pay in the UK starts at the £12.71/hour National Living Wage floor and rises to £25/hour or more with experience, specialism, and licence type. Close Protection is the highest-paid route, with senior officers earning upwards of £100,000 a year. Full-time median pay across the industry sits around £31,000/year.
Yes, women can hold any SIA licence and work any security role in the UK, with no legal or physical barrier tied to gender. Women currently make up around 20% of the UK's door supervisors, and over 100,000 hold SIA licences overall, a number that's been growing year on year.
No, there's no fitness test or physical standard required for an SIA licence or for security work generally. The role is built on training in conflict management and de-escalation, not physical conditioning, though the job can involve long shifts on your feet, which is worth knowing going in.
Yes, there's no weight or build requirement to work in UK security, including SIA-licensed roles. The training focuses on communication, de-escalation, and situational awareness rather than physical size, so being skinny, slight, or lightly built doesn't disqualify you from any security role, Door Supervisor included.
An SIA licence only covers work within the UK — it's a single national scheme spanning England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, but it doesn't transfer abroad. The Republic of Ireland runs its own separate licensing system through the Private Security Authority, and other countries have their own regulators entirely, so you'd need to check that country's requirements separately.
UK security roles span static and retail security, door supervision, CCTV/control room operation, corporate and event security, close protection, and management positions like security command centre manager — each requiring its own SIA licence type. Progression is real too: officers commonly move from static or door work into corporate security, close protection, or management over time.
