It’s a mandatory training course required to renew your SIA licence. It covers updated safety standards, legal changes, and new threat awareness.

Anyone renewing their Door Supervisor, Security Guard, or Close Protection SIA licence must complete a refresher course under the new 2025 rules.

Ideally, you should book your refresher training at least 4 to 6 weeks before your SIA licence expires. This allows enough time to complete the course, receive your certificate, and submit your renewal, helping you avoid any interruption to your work.

Most SIA top-up refresher courses take 1 day, depending on your licence type and whether you need First Aid included.

If you don’t complete your refresher training in time, your licence can’t be renewed, and you must stop working. You may also need to retake the full course, which takes more time and costs more. Booking early helps you avoid this.

The cost varies by course and location. Security Guard refresher courses start from £99.99, and Door Supervisor top-up courses from £129.99. The SIA licence renewal fee of £204 is paid separately to the SIA.
