Loading Bay Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure that everything around the loading bay runs smoothly

• Visit different parts of the loading bay to ensure that everyone is doing what needs to be done while following all the protocols that have been put in place

• Monitor the loading bay to ensure that no one is trying to steal any of the products that needs to be loaded

• Oversee staff’s needs like making sure there are no clashes on the work schedule. That means carefully planning out a roster taking into account sick leave, public holidays and vacation requests

In most cases, the staff under you will come to you if they have a problem that needs sorting, for example if they and another employee don’t get along. You’ll have to be able to juggle all these types of issues while ensuring that you can meet your loading schedule. While it is a demanding position as you continue to learn on the job it becomes less challenging.

Following training for this role, you will be equipped with the skills to:

• Conduct regular area patrols

• Complete security documentation

• Supervise and control access to your assigned location

• Communicate clearly with staff at all levels of the organization

Loading Bay Supervisors are also responsible for: 

• Authorizing vehicle parking

• Ensuring safe pedestrian movements within the area

• Overseeing and directing all deliveries

• Ensuring good housekeeping practices

• Ensuring high standards of health and safety  

• Investigating matters of concern

Working Conditions

Since you will be responsible for many different aspects of the loading bay you should try as best as possible to maintain your physical fitness. The job while fast-paced at times is financially rewarding. Your duties will keep you busy throughout your shift as a lot of responsibility falls on your shoulders. This is an important job for certain companies and you may have to submit weekly or monthly reports on how your staff is handling the demands.

 To get the most out of this job you will need to form a proper teamwork model that helps your staff to stay motivated. It’s also best to familiarize yourself with whatever product or service that the company is involved with so that you have a better understanding of the safety protocols that are needed.

Education required

There are no specific qualifications such as GCSEs required to take your SIA course. However, because all you need is your SIA qualification you will be competing with a lot of people from countries around the world who have the right to work in the UK. You should have at least a strong command of English as you will be required to listen and understand situations as well as write reports and communicate with your team.
