If you enjoy interacting with the public and can maintain a professional and courteous level of professionalism then becoming a Security Concierge is perfect for you. In this position, you will be the first person that the public interacts with at apartment buildings, hotels and resorts. Besides having to greet customers you will also have to assist them when they are leaving. This means you should be good at writing as you may have a lot of entries to make with regards to visitors and other tenants of the building that you’ve been assigned to. It’s a good position for those who truly love meeting new people and who are good at conversationally providing information. While you will be expected to be courteous you may also be called upon to be assertive from time to time. This especially applies to unauthorized people who try to gain access to your building. The job is still heavily focused on providing security and as such, you should have the skills necessary to protect both the building and those who frequent it. If there is any disturbance, such as a rowdy guest, you will be expected to step in and help them leave the premises.

How to become a Security Concierge

Becoming a Security Concierge is a great way to open the door to the world of security as well as customer service. Before you can be considered for employment you will have to obtain the relevant license. Two licenses are suggested for this position. They are the SIA Door Supervisor License or the Security Guard License. Both of these licenses will equip you with the skills that you need to properly carry out the duties of a Security Concierge. They will help you learn about the essentials of security and how to efficiently carry out your role. You can choose one out of the licenses but bear in mind the better qualified you are the more you stand to make a better wage.

Course cost

The general security guard course is a four-day course and costs £179.99.

The SIA door supervisor license is a six-day course that also features multiple-choice exams as well as practical assessments. The training for the license starts at £199.99. For only an extra £20 and two days, we think it’s best to cover your bases and be licensed for venues and positions which involve the sale of alcohol. This way you can be posted to a wider variety of assignments which could mean more cash for you.

There is also a license fee to pay after training of £190.00 and it is valid for three years.

You can apply and pay for your license, at a local post office or online. The total cost of the course and the license is £439.99. Some companies also require that you have a CCTV License.

You can expect to have many duties if you decide to become a Security Concierge. The job is a combination of customer service and security.

Security Concierge Duties and Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for the security of your area

Since you are posted at the front desk you may also have administrative duties such as answering telephones

You may also be expected to monitor CCTV and other security alarm systems to ensure the building is safe

From time to time you may also have to interact with the management team of the building to implement security strategies

This is a position where you can earn a lot, but of course, this is dependent on your experience. It will also depend heavily on how you interact with the people that you meet daily. Many officers work on a 12-hour shift basis. You can also expect to work between 28 to 40 hours a week, usually on four days on 4 days off basis. This may also include weekends.

As you gain the necessary experience on the job you could see that increase to as much as £17.00 an hour. As you gain more experience you could get to the point where you receive about £17.00 an hour and an annual salary of at least £35,000.
