The course runs over 6 consecutive days and is divided into 4 units and covers everything from the legal aspects of working in security to the latest physical intervention techniques. NEW SIA Course Update (April 2021) From April 1st this course will become a 6 day course instead of a 4 day course. In addition, you must have a first aid qualification before you can take the training. This should be an Emergency First Aid at work certificate or higher.

A door supervisor is licensed to work in venues that serve alcohol—like bars, nightclubs, and festivals—where managing entry, crowd control, and incidents is crucial. A security guard, on the other hand, cannot work in licensed venues and is typically based in offices, retail stores, or warehouses. Door supervisors receive extra training in physical intervention, making their role more specialised.
Most door supervisors earn between £12 and £23 per hour, depending on location, experience, and type of venue. Roles in high-risk environments or requiring extra qualifications (like close protection) can pay significantly more.
A Door Supervisor can work in licensed premises, such as nightclubs, bars, hotels, and event venues, as well as in retail stores, corporate buildings, festivals, and stadium security.
You don’t need to be an athlete, but good general fitness helps. You should be able to stay alert during long shifts, stay calm under pressure, and handle physical intervention safely if required. Endurance, awareness, and composure matter more than brute strength.
Once you complete your training and pass the exams, the SIA licence application typically takes 2 to 6 weeks to process.
The SIA licence application fee is £184. This does not include training cost.

Yes. While the term 'bouncer' is commonly used, a door supervisor is the legal, SIA-recognised term. Bouncers often refer to unlicensed security staff, whereas Door Supervisors are fully trained and licensed professionals.
No, being muscular is not a requirement for becoming a door supervisor. Security work is about awareness, communication, and conflict resolution rather than physical strength. Training in de-escalation, conflict resolution, and situational awareness is more valuable than sheer size.

All are good choices—busy and with flexible train times—but the nearest one is Fenny Stratford, and that’s why we recommend using it. Better still, getting from this station to the venue doesn’t require public transport because it’s only a 7 minutes walk. Simply head southeast on Watling Street, take the third exit at the first roundabout, and take the first exit at the second roundabout. From here, turn right onto Penn Road and stay on the route for about 85 metres.
Parking
Luckily for those who’ll drive to the course, the venue offers free onsite parking. But if you’ll visit the city centre for lunch, shopping, or just to run an errand, you’ll need to pay a fee of around £2 for one-hour parking. The car parks at the city centre are a bit further from the venue, and they include;

Other cafes you can try out are Mister Tea’s, GigaBite, The Codebreaker’s, and Dulcies. They are all nearby the venue, offer delicious food, and have low prices.

Milton Keynes is a busy place, and finding a job as a security guard won’t be any trouble. Large shopping centres you can work at include Brunel, The Centre:mk, Westcroft, Bletchley, Intu Milton Keynes, and Kingston. The city is buzzing at night with door personnel in demand at loads of pubs and clubs.
